Two Birthdays for the Price of One

A Birthday Meal and a Birthday Cake

Leona eats first at the Birthday Meal

The Scrambler Marie’s restaurant has a deal that you can eat free on your birthday. So, Mike wanted to visit there on his birthday, especially since it fell on a Saturday this year. Kevin happens to share the same birthday, so we all went out for a lunch meal together. Kevin and Cecelia went to do a few errands, including picking up the lovely christening photos, so Leona visited us for a while.

What's with the candles, Dad?

Later we all sang “Happy Birthday” to Kevin and Grandpa.

Trick or Treat?

Happy Halloween!

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Cecelia found this cute outfit for Leona to wear on Halloween. This day was a hard day and she didn’t get a good afternoon nap. So, I got a message that the Doenges family would not be coming over to do Leona’s first trick or treat. Then I got a message from Kevin that they were on their way. Mike and I were sitting outside with Cooper, watching the neighborhood kids in their costumes. When the Doenges clan arrived, Leona went trick or treating to a couple of houses and then went inside to have her meal.

Little Trick or Treater with Mommy

Alas! Leona was very tricky and did not want to eat properly or nap properly. Even Baba could not work her magic and help her rest.

Babies and Swing Chairs

Leona enjoys various chairs

Leona has a variety of chairs.

Kevin and Cecelia have the pleasure to use these chairs from Kevin’s sister. Each child is unique on the type of chair that they enjoy being in. The blue chair is what I would call a ‘rumble’ seat and has a vibrating function. The yellow chair fits in the automatic swinging mechanism, that plays music and swings. Leona enjoys each seat for just a short period of time. She seems to enjoy things that play music.

Rocking Lounge Chair

Leona’s cousin, Heidi, has grown to be too big for this chair. When an infant can get out the chair, it’s time to stop using it.  I call this the ‘Rocking Lounge Chair’. This reminds me of the old-fashioned wooden summer chairs that I grew up with.

This chair can be either stationary or a rocker, and has a vibrating, music and vibrating with music options. Cecelia and Kevin is letting Baba & Grandpa Fox, have this chair at our house for Leona to use.

We test drove the chair while having lunch today. The rocker is operated by Baba’s right foot.  Good thing I’m used to tapping my foot to keep rhythm while playing an instrument as that is how this runs.  Leona used it for a short time, but then it was time for her lunch.  She had a long nap and didn’t use the chair again that day.

A Gaggle of GrapeNuts

How Many Boxes of GrapeNuts Does One Man Need?

19 Boxes of GrapeNuts

Cecelia invited me over to the her house to visit with her, Leona and Grandma Doenges. As I was going to get a glass of water in the kitchen, I noticed the large quantity of GrapeNuts cereal. What will I get Kevin for his gag gift this year?

Happy Baby

What are you looking at Leona?

Kevin and Cecelia were taking Leona for some professional pictures today.  The plan was to get some nice photos in Great-Grandma Leona’s Baptism dress. Grandma Edie could not resist seeing coming in to visit and see Leona at the photo shot. Will hear on Sunday how it went.

Cooper Plays With a Toy

Of Course, Food is Involved

Cooper protects the food toy

A couple of days ago, we let Cooper go outside before bedtime, and he came back in in a wild mood. Mike threw a chew toy across the room and he chased it and brought it back. We did this a couple of times and then I put some dog treats into the ‘Kong’ toy. Cooper quickly realized that if he moved the toy, that food would come out.

This photo is after a long walk. It sure looks like Cooper is protecting the toy as it doesn’t look a comfortable pillow.

Pumpkin Happiness

Pumpkin Tree

Better Weather on Friday of the Pumpkin Show

The Doenges and Fox family had hoped to visit the Circleville Pumpkin Show on Thursday, but it ended up being a cold, windy and rainy day. Thursday had a lot of baby activities. And  Friday had the pet parade. This is one of my favorite festivals.  What is better than having things made with pumpkin?

Mike and I drove over to Cecelia and Kevin’s house so that we could travel together to Circleville.  We traveled down SR 23 and ran into a traffic jam just a few miles north of North Bloomfield.  There were anxious moments as Leona was getting fussy as it was close to feeding time.  Should we stop at the rest stop or try to get past the road block?  Kevin and I talked Cecelia into trying to get past the jam and not stop at the rest area for a lunch break.   It ended up that a grain truck had overturned and one lane was blocked as the grain was being loaded onto another truck.  We shortly got to our destination.  Cecelia feed Leona, with help from Kevin,  and Mike and I proceeded into town.  We took several pictures of the pumpkin display and talked to various people.  This is were we learned that you should run your pumpkins with vegetable oil as it help to preserve them.  Reapply after any significant rain.

Leona starts out in her stroller

Leona  started out being in her stroller.  We got as far as visiting the Watts Street Pumpkin Show building, where they have the baked goods and student art show before Leona left the stroller to cuddle with Mommy.

Leona gets ready to cuddle in the sling.

Leona peeks out of the sling.

We continued down the street, thinking we were avoiding the afternoon Pet Parade.  I misread the parade route on the map, we ended up watching the parade.

Dogs in costume.

Now on to the food.  I bought a mini-loaf of pumpkin bread as I was hungry when we arrived.  Mike and I shared a good piece of pumpkin pie from the Community Methodist Church.  Kevin and Cecelia shared a piece of pumpkin cheesecake and supported the local band boosters.  The cheesecake was still frozen and hard to eat.  Cecelia, Kevin and I had pumpkin waffle cakes that were covered with powdered sugar.  We ended up getting sprinkled with sugar–even little Leona!  Later Kevin and Cecelia shared some pumpkin chili and a tenderloin sandwich.

Not at the Pumpkin Show today

A Winnie-the-pooh kind of day

Today was a rainy and blustery day. It was very rainy as some parts of Central Ohio are on a flood watch and very windy. Cecelia and I agreed that today was not the best day to go to the Circleville Pumpkin Festival, so Leona, Roxanne and Cecelia came over to visit and have lunch. After lunch, Leona was wiggling with her Mommy and in the background, you can see Roxanne thinking out going outside. She decided to stay inside too!

Something is interesting out there

Now I am sad...

Now I am happy!

Bye Grandpa!

It is amazing how quickly a baby can go from extreme happiness to extreme sadness. Sometimes it is gas or a dirty diaper that is the cause or an overtired baby. Today, Leona had a great nap upstairs as we watched some TV together

Happy Baby Video!

Every so often, Leona has time of happiness between the sad crying times.  Enjoy the happy video.  This was taken on Tuesday while Cecelia went to an appointment.

Fall is in the Air, Leaves are on the Ground

Autumn is a Beautiful Season

Cooper and Edgar enjoy a walk together

Fall is a great season with the change in the color of the leaves and decorations for Autumn and Halloween seasons. Edgar and I have a good time walking when we have sunny days. It’s great exercise too!

Fun decorations for the Halloween season

Here is a start of Halloween decorations. What do you call a group of ghosts? A haunting of ghosts? I will share other photos of decorations as other neighbors get into the spirit.

As we were walking around the block, Edgar noted that he enjoyed the earth tones of the leaves on this tree and on the ground under the tree.

Graveyards pop up often this time of year

Graveyards are another favorite theme in the Fall. It does look this scene was created to honor the 50th birthday of Chris, a neighbor down the street.

Leona goes to Yoga!

Leona enjoys Yoga from a different view

Today was a rainy day, so Baba joined Cecelia and Leona as Leona attended her first yoga class as a visitor. She has had many months as a visitor to yoga, but this time she was on the outside and not the inside! Cecelia enjoyed her class, but stated “I will be sore later.”  Leona was in her stroller and just slept and enjoyed the music.

Baba also sat around and enjoyed the music and checked on the sleeping baby. It sure made me happy to see my daughter Cecelia get to enjoy her favorite activity
