Better Weather on Friday of the Pumpkin Show

The Doenges and Fox family had hoped to visit the Circleville Pumpkin Show on Thursday, but it ended up being a cold, windy and rainy day. Thursday had a lot of baby activities. And  Friday had the pet parade. This is one of my favorite festivals.  What is better than having things made with pumpkin?

Mike and I drove over to Cecelia and Kevin’s house so that we could travel together to Circleville.  We traveled down SR 23 and ran into a traffic jam just a few miles north of North Bloomfield.  There were anxious moments as Leona was getting fussy as it was close to feeding time.  Should we stop at the rest stop or try to get past the road block?  Kevin and I talked Cecelia into trying to get past the jam and not stop at the rest area for a lunch break.   It ended up that a grain truck had overturned and one lane was blocked as the grain was being loaded onto another truck.  We shortly got to our destination.  Cecelia feed Leona, with help from Kevin,  and Mike and I proceeded into town.  We took several pictures of the pumpkin display and talked to various people.  This is were we learned that you should run your pumpkins with vegetable oil as it help to preserve them.  Reapply after any significant rain.

Leona starts out in her stroller

Leona  started out being in her stroller.  We got as far as visiting the Watts Street Pumpkin Show building, where they have the baked goods and student art show before Leona left the stroller to cuddle with Mommy.

We continued down the street, thinking we were avoiding the afternoon Pet Parade.  I misread the parade route on the map, we ended up watching the parade.

Now on to the food.  I bought a mini-loaf of pumpkin bread as I was hungry when we arrived.  Mike and I shared a good piece of pumpkin pie from the Community Methodist Church.  Kevin and Cecelia shared a piece of pumpkin cheesecake and supported the local band boosters.  The cheesecake was still frozen and hard to eat.  Cecelia, Kevin and I had pumpkin waffle cakes that were covered with powdered sugar.  We ended up getting sprinkled with sugar–even little Leona!  Later Kevin and Cecelia shared some pumpkin chili and a tenderloin sandwich.
